Enough comrades, I won't do it again
By phenny lonyi

“I am so vying for … seat. In need your support. Vote me in.” Or "We have come to represent so vying for …MUSO seat. We need you. Tell a friend."

We are tired of empty words, empty phrases and lots of clichés and fillers.  Past are those when politics was needed to sweet talk us into electing them to squander the larger cake. We no longer make politicians, we need leaders, comrades.

We need leaders who depict status of intellects not power -suffocated or suffering from money hunger strike. Let’s put a stop to goons and hooligans who suffer from inferiority complex, aiming to demean potential leaders and inflict confusion on right thinking persons. They think that by shouting, abusing and jeering even fighting and defaming competitive aspirants and their supporters makes them superior.

Taking it out on fellow student is not necessary. Standing firm, never arm fellow comrade on grounds of political affiliation- Cord vs. Jubilee, nor tribal cutline. No more animosity nor revenge, no hard feeling and social insecurity. It has never helped rather demise. Reckon the post election violence in Kenya? and the past Moi University Students Organisation's campaigns and elections? Many died, injured and some handicapped in the process.
Let’s choose leaders in the incoming elections. People that understand and pioneer for comrades’ rights and needs. Consider more of the mind, character and abilities, not the heaviness of aspirants’ pockets, looks…
Let aspirants present their achievements. Whatever they have accomplished in the positions they have held at any level with proof and authority. Whatever it will entail, let us see the leadership command in them despite the political masterminds they make.

As they come to or rooms requesting for the so called support, let them talk, interrogate them wisely as intellect, never promising support. Afterwards, weigh the person if they fit. No shouting, screaming and jeering at crossfire and “Kamkunjis”. Allow them ample time to present what they are. Let us judge with sober minds in their absentia giving them feedback in the polling boxes.
Moi University needs ethically charismatic leaders, upright with self less ambitious. Learn from great leaders of time like Mahta Ma Gandhi, Martin Luther. Never divided to rule but servant propelled that they lead.
